Saturday 6 March 2027 is WI Day

To coincide with International Women's Day and Mothering Sunday, we are planning a Federation wide WI Day where we can celebrate everything that makes us such a special organisation and gain new members at the same time.

What’s it all about?

We'd like every WI in our Federation to open their doors and host an event that celebrates everything brilliant about the WI while making it even more appealing to women today. You might want to host a breakfast session, lunch, afternoon tea or supper club … it's up to you. If you are a small WI and are worried that it might be daunting, then feel free to partner up with a neighbouring WI and share the load.

Let’s welcome new members, challenge dusty stereotypes and show we’re about far more than jam, Jerusalem and Victoria sponge!

The WI means friendship, learning, campaigning, fun, fresh experiences and making a real difference—with plenty of room for new faces and ideas.

Let’s get out there!

The Federation will help with ideas to promote your event and help you make connections with local groups such as Young Farmers, Girlguiding, community groups or other local organisations—and remember your friends, daughters, sisters, neighbours and maybe the regular people you encounter when you're out and about.

To launch our initiative there will be two Zoom sessions, the first on Wednesday 28th October at 10am, the second on the evening of Thursday 12th November at 7pm and an in-person meeting (date tbc) to help you with planning. These aren’t about telling WIs what to do—it’s permission to think, experiment and have fun! Get talking, throw ideas around, be adventurous and try something new. The WI has thrived for generations; now let’s help it flourish for generations more.
