Cumbria- Westmorland Federation of WIs invite you, your family and friends to our Literary Luncheon on Thursday 15th October at the Roundthorn Country House Hotel near Penrith.

Cumbria-Cumberland Federation members are also going to be joining with us for this event.

We expect the lunch to be very popular so make sure you get your booking in promptly.

Deborah Swift

Our guest speaker is Deborah Swift. She spoke to us over ten years ago about her breakthrough novel ‘The Lady’s Slipper’. Since then her career has blossomed with several series of bestselling historical novels attracting a wide international readership.

She has novels based in the Restoration period, and Renaissance Italy and is currently focusing on the World War Two period. She will be bringing copies of her current novel The Enemy’s Wife so that members have the chance to purchase a copy signed on the day.

Deborah gives fascinating insights into how modern writers must be adaptable to find their niche markets and how the main London publishing houses, focusing on younger writers, are very difficult to break into for aspiring writers.

She absolutely loves speaking to WI audiences and is really looking forward to sharing her experiences on the day, while enjoying the lovely atmosphere of the Roundthorn, who look after us well and put on a fantastic meal.
